| As urban development accelerates and extreme weather events bring increased risks of heavy rainfall, the Water Resources Bureau (WRB) of the Tainan City Government is actively implementing wastewater reuse initiatives and urban flood prevention projects. To gain international insights and best practices, a WRB delegation led by Senior Specialist Wang Kuo-an, representing Director-General Chiu Chung-chuan, along with four other members, visited Japan from July 29 to August 2, 2024, to participate in the 2024 Sewage Works Exhibition in Tokyo. During the visit, the delegation toured the Sewerage Exhibition Hall, wastewater treatment facilities, and the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel (popularly known as the Underground Flood Protection Temple) to study Japan’s flood mitigation strategies. Through direct exchanges and discussions with the Japan Sewerage Association, the delegation gained valuable insights into sewer system operation and management practices. The experience is expected to provide key references for Tainan’s future sewer system construction, maintenance, operation, and urban flood control and disaster mitigation strategies. |
